(FORT WORTH, TX – October 19, 2021) – Throughout early voting and Tuesday, November 2, voters in Tarrant County will be able to go to the polls for free on Trinity Metro and other transit providers.

Runners can show their voter card or current Texas ID and travel for free during early voting Oct. 18-29 and Election Day Nov. 2.

The Tarrant County Commissioners Court on Tuesday approved a partnership with Tarrant County Transportation Services to pay for customer trips to polling locations, with an amount not exceeding $ 30,000.

This isn’t the first time the county has partnered with transportation providers to offer free rides to the polls. During the November 2020 elections, more than 5,800 free trips to polling places were provided through this program.

“Access to transportation should not be a barrier that prevents people from exercising their right to vote,” said Tarrant County Judge Glen Whitley. Tarrant County is once again offering free rides to polling stations, including accessible services for the elderly and disabled, as well as on-demand service in Arlington and Fort Worth. These free rides will be available during advance voting and polling day. “

Wayne Gensler, vice president and chief operating officer of buses and paratransit at Trinity Metro, said he was happy to partner with the Tarrant County Commissioners’ Court to provide rides to the polls.

“We want to give everyone the opportunity to vote in early voting and on election day,” Gensler said. “We are grateful to the Tarrant County Commissioners Court for funding these rides.”

Transit services included in the program are Trinity Metro Bus Lines, ZIPZONE Services, ACCESS Paratransit Services, as well as Tarrant County Transportation Services (TCTS), Northeast Transportation Services (NETS) and the Via and Handitran of Arlington. For ZIPZONE passengers, free rides will be determined by proximity to the pickup location or the destination of a polling location.

To use Via’s on-demand service in Arlington, download the Via app, enter the address of a polling center in the Via service area, and use promo code ARNVOTE2021.

Tarrant County has several early voting locations and a list of Election Day locations.
